2023 offers a fresh start to leave behind our mood, which was still tense due to the pandemic epidemic and the restrictions that came with it in the past years. This year everything will be much more enthusiastic, including design trends!
It seems that most of us are ready to get rid of our pajamas & sweatpants and immerse ourselves in the flow of life. 2022 was all about calming color palettes, large furnishings, and an overall sense of calm. However, 2023 reminds us that we should add character to our homes with bright and prominent decoration trends.
Goodbye to gray and its tones.
Competent interior designers say the popular gray interior trend is slowly fading. In general, along with the cool tones, gray interiors are obsolete and are replaced by more pops of color, warm tones and accent walls.
Large light fixtures have proven impractical.
In the past years, the size of the lighting fixtures has grown constantly and often cannot adapt to the scale of the rooms. A chandelier shouldn’t be as big as the dining table underneath and you should be able to get close to the table without feeling like you’re going to bang your head, right?
Floating shelves are out!
The open shelf concept has taken the design world by storm as people try to create a sense of openness and more storage space, but that trend will end in 2023. We’ve seen stacked, open shelves gain popularity, especially in the open house concept, but it’s time to say goodbye. Longer shelves always look better than multiple shelves because they are neater and less messy.
The popularity of the modern-organic trend will decline.
The so-called modern-organic style, which is a mix of minimalism, mid-century modern decor and bohemian design styles, will also be in decline in 2023. While the modern organic skyrocketed in early 2022, its popularity will likely plummet in 2023 because homeowners want to avoid interiors that look too similar to other homes in the new year. Everyone will be looking for something different once more.
The Zellige trend will continue to rise.
It is estimated that the trend of Moroccan tile work, which attracts attention especially in social media and known as zellige or mosaic, will rise for good reasons. Its perfectly flawed appeal continues to rise this year with a more dotted version. Rough textures and elegant aesthetics create an elevated focal point in a room without the need for additional layers.
Bold colors will make a comeback.
While natural and neutral tones have been preferred for a long time, expect to see more colors in 2023! Especially moody colors on the wall can create the right mood before you set the table or sit on your favorite sofa. However, this year, accessories such as pillows and rugs, where bold colors are preferred, will again find their place at the center of the rooms.
The accent walls stand out.
More accent walls are expected in 2023 to add expression and glamor to spaces.
Choose an accent with a unique texture or wallpaper in a color similar to the rest of the room. If you want to create a wood accent wall, be sure to use vertical slats as they lift the roof and make small spaces feel more intimate and large spaces feel more inviting. Also, remember that it’s always best to decorate the first wall you see when you enter the room.
Modernist curves are a hot new trend for 2023.
People often prefer to use more folds in their homes to create dimension. And as we try to shift things in that direction, a move away from straight lines towards more modernist curves seems on the horizon. Preferences such as curvilinear furniture provide a bold style that does not look ragged. Designers suggest opting for arched doorways and curves around exterior walls to add interesting shapes and dimensions.
Used and old furniture is permanent.
Vintage furniture has become a major social media trend in recent years, and interior designers underline that we should be ready to see more in 2023. Purchasing vintage or antique furniture is a trend that continues to grow and is a great way to add character to your home.
