The cities with the highest property sales to foreigners in the first five months of 2024 have been announced. According to the details, the list is dominated by tourism cities, but there are some surprising entries as well.
Property sales to foreign nationals decreased by 45.8% in the January-May period of 2024 compared to the same period last year. According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, 9,024 properties were sold to foreigners in the first five months of 2024, with the majority of these sales occurring in vacation areas. Sales in May 2024 fell by 34.8% compared to May 2023, totaling 2,064.
Russians Lead Property Purchases in Turkey
According to the data, Russians purchased 2,091 properties in the five-month period, followed by Iranians with 914 properties, Ukrainians with 623, Iraqis with 433, Germans with 406, Kazakhs with 402, Azerbaijanis with 288, Americans with 215, and Saudis with 205 properties.
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, the top 10 cities with the highest property sales to foreigners are as follows:
- Antalya
The tourism capital Antalya ranks first, with 3,275 properties sold to foreigners in the first five months of 2024. This number was 6,446 during the same period last year. - Istanbul
Istanbul, which is second on the list, saw a total of 3,128 properties sold to foreigners. Last year, 5,329 properties were sold. - Mersin
According to the data, Mersin is the third most preferred city by foreigners, with 826 properties sold. Last year, 1,231 properties were sold to foreigners in Mersin. - Ankara
In the capital city of Ankara, a total of 221 properties were sold to foreigners. Last year, this number was 504. - Yalova
Yalova, a city attracting foreign interest, saw 210 properties sold to foreigners this year. Last year, this number was 427. - Bursa
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, 207 properties were sold to foreigners in Bursa in 2024. This number was 443 during the same period in 2023. - Izmir
This year, 158 properties were sold to foreigners in Izmir, making it one of the cities with the most significant drop in sales. Last year, 373 properties were sold. - Kocaeli
Known as an industrial city, Kocaeli saw 150 properties sold to foreigners this year. Last year, 240 properties were sold during the same period. - Aydın
Aydın, a popular city for summer tourism, saw 134 properties sold to foreigners this year. Last year, this number was 203. - Trabzon
Trabzon, the only Black Sea city on the list, saw 121 properties sold to foreigners this year. Last year, this number was 207.
