Aksu: Kundu and the airport district

· Author: Grand Emlak

Located east of Antalya, about 18 km from the city centre, Aksu is a district of 406 km² and 35 neighbourhoods known for the Kundu coast, Antalya Airport, the Expo grounds and the ancient city of Perge. In this article we summarise the district's location, transport links and daily life, drawing on official sources. Source: Wikipedia, accessed 08.10.2026

Location and transport

Aksu's most distinctive advantage is that it borders Antalya Airport. Operated by Fraport TAV, the airport connects 327 destinations with 131 airlines, and since 27 October 2025 all international flights depart from Terminal 2; according to the operator's transport page, the airport is roughly 20 minutes by car from the city centre via the D400 highway. According to DHMİ statistics, Antalya Airport handled 25.1 million passengers in the first eight months of 2026, of which 4.85 million were domestic and 20.26 million international. In the same period of 2025 the total had been recorded as 26.0 million. Source: DHMİ Statistics, accessed 08.10.2026

Rail connects Aksu directly to the city: the Antray tram operated by Antalya Ulaşım runs on the Fatih–Havalimanı–Aksu–Expo route, departure times are published online and fares are paid with the Antalyakart. The airport, Aksu centre and the Expo grounds therefore sit on a single line with no change required. Source: Antalya Ulaşım – Antray, accessed 08.10.2026

Neighbourhoods and their character

Kundu, Kurşunlu and Barbaros are among the district's best-known neighbourhoods; the Kundu coast and the Kurşunlu Waterfall are its main attractions. The local economy rests on intensive vegetable and fruit farming alongside tourism income, a combination that gives Aksu both a coastal and a rural character. Source: Wikipedia, accessed 08.10.2026

The Perge Archaeological Site, run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, lies in the Barbaros neighbourhood and is on UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage List. Highlights include a 500-metre colonnaded street, a stadium for around 12,000 spectators and the Hellenistic gate towers from the 3rd century BC; the site is open daily from 08:00 to 19:00. Kurşunlu Waterfall is a nature park administered by the 6th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks; declared on 21 May 1991, it is the oldest of Antalya's five nature parks. As a natural area close to the city, it represents the district's green side. Source: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry – DKMP, accessed 08.10.2026

The Expo 2016 Antalya grounds are also in Aksu: the 1,121-decare site remains open to visitors with its Expo Tower, congress building, Agriculture and Biodiversity Museum, Expo Lake and amphitheatres. Fifty-two countries took part officially, and the grounds are used today for events and recreation. Source: Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, accessed 08.10.2026

The ANFAŞ Antalya Expo Center in the Soğucaksu neighbourhood serves as a trade fair and congress venue with 40,000 m² of indoor and 20,000 m² of outdoor space; the complex is about five minutes from the airport. Source: ANFAŞ, accessed 08.10.2026

Daily life and climate

According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service's 1930–2025 records, Antalya's average temperature is 10.1 °C in January and 28.6 °C in July. Most rainfall comes in winter: 225.5 mm in January against 4.7 mm in July, when daily sunshine reaches 11.7 hours. August is similar, with an average of 28.5 °C and 4.3 mm of rain. Winter rain is noticeable, yet the January average stays above 10 °C. Source: Turkish State Meteorological Service, accessed 08.10.2026

The tram line shapes daily life: because the airport, the Expo grounds and the Aksu stops lie on the same line, the city centre can be reached without a car; Antalya Ulaşım runs tram and bus services under one roof. Source: Antalya Ulaşım, accessed 08.10.2026

Who chooses Aksu

The district's population is 87,070 according to the 2025 ADNKS results. As there is no official data on buyer profiles, we put it cautiously: proximity to the airport offers a practical base for frequent travellers, while tourism employment around Kundu and the low-density fabric along the Perge–Expo axis answer different needs. Events at the Expo grounds and ANFAŞ fairs bring visitors to the district throughout the year. Source: Wikipedia (TurkStat ADNKS 2025), accessed 08.10.2026
