International and private schools in Antalya: IB and Cambridge programmes
· Author: Grand Emlak
For families moving to Antalya the first question is usually the school; this guide compiles only what the schools confirm on their own websites.
The legal framework: private, international and foreign schools
Private schools in Türkiye fall under Private Education Institutions Law No. 5580 of 8 February 2007. The law defines "international private education institutions" as institutions that only foreign-national students may attend, and "foreign schools" as private schools opened by foreigners. The schools listed below belong to neither category: they are private Turkish schools that apply an international programme alongside the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) curriculum. The MoNE Private Education Institutions Regulation is based on this law. It requires international institutions wishing to apply a programme other than the Turkish one to hold a permit issued by the education authority of the relevant country and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it stipulates that international private education institutions may not share a building or campus with other schools. Current legislation and circulars are published by MoNE's Directorate General for Private Education Institutions. IB and Cambridge: what they mean and how to verify
Cambridge International offers the Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary (IGCSE) and Advanced stages, taught in more than 10,000 schools in over 160 countries; whether a school is authorised can be checked in Cambridge's official school finder. The IGCSE is a qualification for 14 to 16 year olds with a choice of over 70 subjects, assessed at the end of the course through written, oral, coursework and practical components. IB (International Baccalaureate) schools run the Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP) programmes; authorisation can be checked in the IB's official school directory. This article relies only on programmes the schools state on their own websites; the table below lists district, programme and official site.
