· Author: Grand Emlak

Döşemealtı lies north of Antalya, 18 km from the city centre; the Antalya–Burdur–Ankara (E-24) and Antalya–Denizli (D-350) highways pass through the district, and the municipality describes its road infrastructure as well developed. In this article we summarise the district's location, neighbourhoods and rhythm of life using official sources. Source: Döşemealtı Municipality – Location, accessed 08.10.2026

Location and transport

The district takes its name from the 4-metre-wide paved stone road in the Derbent Pass that linked the cities of Pamphylia and Pisidia in antiquity; locals called the plain below the road "Döşemealtı", meaning "below the pavement". The settlement was founded in 1934 as Kırkgöz–Yeniköy by families arriving from Kızılcadağ near Korkuteli and gained a municipal organisation on 17 December 1977. For the climate of central Antalya, the Turkish State Meteorological Service's 1930–2025 records give a January average of 10.1 °C and a July average of 28.6 °C, with 225.5 mm of rain in January and 4.7 mm in July. As no separate series is published for Döşemealtı, these figures refer to the provincial centre. Source: Turkish State Meteorological Service, accessed 08.10.2026

Neighbourhoods and their character

According to municipal records the district has 32 neighbourhoods, including Yeşilbayır, Çıplaklı, Düzlerçamı, Yeniköy, Bademağacı, Dağbeli, Ekşili, Karaveliler and Kovanlık; those near the centre are urban in character, while those stretching towards the Taurus Mountains remain rural. The Yeşilbayır neighbourhood is the pilot area of the "Slow Neighbourhood" programme run by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality with the Cittaslow network; an ecological park of roughly 14,000 m², including an open-air exhibition space and a Women's Coffeehouse, is being built there. Düzlerçamı is a 140,000 m² recreation area on the Antalya–Korkuteli road, about 15 km from the city centre; within its pine forest are walking and sports trails, children's playgrounds, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, and cafeterias. Historic and natural sites

Termessos is an ancient city inside the Beydağları–Termessos National Park, reached by a road branching off at the 24th kilometre of the Antalya–Korkuteli highway and climbing to 1,050 metres on Güllük Mountain. With its theatre overlooking the Gulf of Antalya, gymnasium, five cisterns and the tomb of Alketas, a commander of Alexander the Great, it is among the most striking archaeological sites preserved within a forest. Karain Cave sheltered humans around 500,000 years ago and is one of Anatolia's earliest settlement sites; excavations have uncovered bones of elephants, hippopotamuses, lions and giraffes, species no longer found in Anatolia. Source: Döşemealtı Municipality – Karain, accessed 08.10.2026

Kocain Cave has the largest entrance and gallery of any cave in Turkey and is known for stalactites and stalagmites reaching 35 metres; at Evdirhan, built in 1219 by the Seljuk Sultan İzzeddin Keykavus I, revitalisation works are under way. The district's cultural emblem is the Döşemealtı carpet: developed by the Teke Yörüks who settled in the region after the 12th century, it is woven in 16 types such as Halelli, Toplu, Dallı and Mihraplı; the oldest example, the Halelli carpet, is displayed in the Antalya Museum. Daily life and economy

The Antalya Organised Industrial Zone lies within Döşemealtı; 454 companies operate there in 8 sectors, namely wood, food, paper, machinery, plastics, agriculture, textiles and construction, and the zone describes itself as Turkey's most environmentally friendly and greenest industrial zone. According to the District Governorate, 81 per cent of the district's 67,310 hectares is forest and non-agricultural land and 16.9 per cent is farmland; livestock accounts for 83 per cent of the value of agricultural output. This distribution explains why the residential fabric is surrounded by wide green spaces. Source: Döşemealtı District Governorate – Agriculture, accessed 08.10.2026

Who chooses Döşemealtı

The district's population is 97,121 according to the 2025 ADNKS results. As there is no official data on buyer profiles, we put it cautiously: the university campus and the industrial zone generate demand linked to work and study, while the natural setting along the Termessos–Düzlerçamı axis appeals to those seeking a quieter life.
