Where the Taurus meets the sea, Kemer with Çamyuva, Göynük and Tekirova is the best-known resort district west of Antalya. Location, neighbourhoods, daily life:
Location and transport
Kemer town centre is 43 km west of Antalya. The district sits on a 46 km coastal strip at the foot of the Western Taurus, with the Mediterranean to the east and forest and mountains to the west. Kemer became a district in 1990; after its designation as a tourism zone in 1987, tourism quickly became the main livelihood. Antalya Airport lies north-east of the city on the D400 highway, about 20 minutes by car from downtown. Per the airport operator's guide, minibuses to Kemer depart from the Antalya Intercity Bus Terminal, reached fastest by the AntRay tram. Göynük and Beldibi
Göynük and Beldibi are the first coastal neighbourhoods when arriving from Antalya; Beldibi's township was converted into a neighbourhood under Law No. 6360 (2014 metropolitan reform) and attached to Kemer. Beldibi Cave, at the 40th kilometre of the Antalya–Kemer road, is one of the district's historic stops. Tekirova, Phaselis and Tahtalı
Kemer's most important monument is Phaselis. Founded in the 7th century BC as a port on a small peninsula in Tekirova, it was eastern Lycia's busiest harbour city with three harbours, aqueducts from Mount Tahtalı, two baths, a theatre and a 25-metre-wide main street. The site is open daily 08:00–19:00. Source: Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Phaselis Archaeological Site, Kemer Municipality – Historic sites and places to see, accessed 08.10.2026
Mount Tahtalı, inside Beydağları Coastal National Park (declared in 1972), is at 2,365 metres the region's highest point near the sea. The Olympos Cable Car, with a 4,350-metre line, is Türkiye's longest; it opened in 2007 and the ride takes about 10 minutes. A four-hour hiking trail leads from the summit down to Beycik village. Ancient Olympos, between Kemer and Adrasan, was founded in the Hellenistic period as a Lycian League member with three votes; nearby Yanartaş (Chimera) is known for natural gas burning continuously in the rocks north of Çıralı beach. Daily life
Climate: Kemer enjoys around 300 sunny days a year; sea temperatures are 10–12 °C in winter and 27–29 °C in summer, allowing swimming for eight months. In the Meteorological Service's 1930–2025 Antalya records, the annual mean is 18.2 °C and January 10.1 °C. Healthcare: Kemer State Hospital provides emergency care, surgery, dialysis, endoscopy, imaging and physiotherapy, runs mother-and-baby programmes and a smoking-cessation clinic, books appointments via MHRS, and its website is in Turkish, English and Russian. Social life: by the municipality's own account, life is quiet outside the season and lively from May to October; it also notes that seasonal inflows of workers and residents cause housing shortages that push rents upward.
