In August, housing sales increased by 9.9% compared to the same period last year and by 5.6% compared to July, reaching the highest monthly figure of the year with 134,155 housing sales. While total sales in the first 8 months of the year increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year, credit sales decreased by 49.8%.
According to TÜİK data, 134,155 housing units were sold throughout Turkey in August. Sales increased by 9.9% compared to the same month last year and by 5.6% compared to July. Thus, August became the month with the highest sales figures of the year. The highest housing sales were 19,467 in Istanbul, 12,496 in Ankara and 7,044 in Izmir, respectively. The lowest housing sales were 53 in Hakkari, 93 in Ardahan and 116 in Bayburt.
In the January-August period, total housing sales increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year, reaching 806,317. However, there was a sharp decline in sales with credit; in August, mortgaged housing sales decreased by 17.1% compared to the previous year, falling to 13,574. The share of mortgaged sales in total sales was determined as 10.1%. Mortgaged sales in the January-August period decreased by 49.8%, reaching 76,485.
A Decline in Sales to Foreigners
Housing sales to foreigners also decreased by 26.2% in August, reaching 2,257. The share of foreigners in total sales was 1.7%. The cities with the most sales were Istanbul with 838 houses, Antalya with 696 houses, and Mersin with 174 houses.
